How Extreme E Is Revolutionizing Motorsport

After years of preparation, Extreme E has finally arrived with a mission to raise awareness on climate change, and it looks like this innovative form of motorsport could be the future of extreme racing. Below are a few points on why this may be so.

An Environmental Friendly Goal
The all-electric series is determined to raise awareness of climate change and global warming to motorsport fans around the world. The car used for the championship, The Odyssey 21 developed by Williams Advanced Engineering runs in a completely eco-friendly system.

Promoting Gender Equality
Extreme E has made it clear that they will follow the three Es which are Entertainment, Environment, and Equality. To give female drivers a better chance, this series has made it mandatory for all teams to have one female driver in their lineup.

The Venues
As a part of their programme to give the message to people about changing climate, Extreme E will race at five of the most extreme areas which will cover Desert, Arctic, Amazon, Ocean, and Glacier. The races will be called X Prix.

The Format
A format that is very different to the other disciplines of motorsport will be witnessed in this series as instead of a normal qualifying and race, we will see a two-round qualifying followed by a semi-final race, a crazy race, and a shootout race. The top two of the semi-final and the winner of the crazy race will take part in the final to see who will be the winners of that X Prix.

The Team Owners

When a World Champion backs a team in a new series, it always grabs attention, but when nine of the biggest names in motorsport own their own teams in a championship, that is another case. Considering the fact that the likes of Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz, Jenson Button, Jean-Eric Vergne, Adrian Newey, Zak Brown, and Chip Ganassi have all entered as team owners, this championship is definitely no joke.

The Drivers
Finally, last but by no means least, we have the drivers and there are quite a lot of established drivers in this grid. Rally Legends Sebastien Loeb and Carlos Sainz have entered as so has ex-F1 champion Jenson Button. Reigning World Rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson drives for Rosberg and currently leading the championship.

So, after Sunday's thrilling races, I'm sure we'll all be keeping our eyes peeled for the next extreme e race. You can catch it live on the Sony Sports Network in India.
